\"\"This Remote School<\/i><\/b> was first published in the 1980s, but had been out of print. This new impression is published by Tatham History Society, in A4 format, 76pp, with stapled binding.<\/p>\n

The book was put together using material from the Tatham Fells School log books kept by the head teachers, up to the closure of the Old School in 1961. For past and current pupils, and their parents, it provides a fascinating insight into the life of the school over the 86 years prior to the move to the new school building in Lowgill.<\/p>\n

The Log Books themselves are frail, but by editing and copying the pages the material is available to all. Excerpts are included on many topics, e.g. visiting speakers, seasonal work on the farm, the weather, discipline, sickness, the World Wars & evacuees, inspector’s reports, Empire Day. Some themes recur frequently. The remoteness of the school makes itself felt throughout the Log Books; and in the early days there were constant struggles to get children to school, and to keep the school open.<\/p>\n

The new edition has a cover price of \u00a36. Local delivery by hand is free (available only to addresses within 3 miles of Tatham parish boundary) but you may have to wait a while until one of us is passing your way!<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
